Slashdot review of Ian M. Banks' new novel, Matter
Slashdot surprised me by posting a review of Ian M. Banks' new Culture novel, Matter. The review is more of a general critique of Banks' Culture universe and doesn't go into too much detail about the new story. Still, it's worth checking out for the comments that follow.
The review describes very little about Matter...I still know almost nothing about the plot other than it's a Culture novel. However, this isn't a bad thing...other than "it's [adverb][adjective]" and reading the back cover, I'd rather not know anything about the book until I read it.
What really makes the article great is the comments. A good discussion of Ian M. Banks (and British science fiction in general) is always welcome and I enjoyed reading everyone's opinions, even the hilarious assessment by someone that Peter F. Hamilton should be considered on par with Frank Herbert.
If you're a regular Slashdot reader and keep your comment threshold high, turn it off for this one. Most of the good comments are only rated at 1 or 2. People with mod points that day obviously weren't science fiction readers.
